History

Originally inhabited by the Māori tribes Ngāti Toa and Rangitāne, Blenheim has a rich cultural history. European settlers established the town in the mid-19th century, naming it after the Battle of Blenheim. The introduction of viticulture in the 1970s transformed the region into New Zealand’s premier wine-producing area, now globally recognized for its exceptional Sauvignon Blanc.
