Napier
New Zealand, New Zealand
Napier, located on the eastern coast of New Zealand’s North Island, offers a unique blend of architectural beauty and natural wonders. Known as the Art Deco capital of the world, the city was rebuilt in the 1930s after a devastating earthquake. Visitors can enjoy walking tours of its historic buildings, relax on Marine Parade, explore nearby wineries, and visit the National Aquarium of New Zealand.
History
Napier's history was dramatically reshaped by the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake, which destroyed much of the city. In its aftermath, Napier was rebuilt in the popular Art Deco style of the era, which remains a defining characteristic today. Historically, the area was also significant for Māori settlements and later became an important hub for sheep farming and wine production in New Zealand
