History

Wellington has been home to Māori tribes for over 500 years, with the area once called Te Whanganui-a-Tara. It became the capital of New Zealand in 1865 due to its central location. European settlers established a thriving port town, and the city has since grown into a cultural hub known for film, politics, and arts, including being home to the "Lord of the Rings" film production.
