History

Bhuj was founded in 1510 by Rao Hamir. It flourished under the Jadeja Rajputs as a princely state and later became an important trade and cultural center. Despite the devastation caused by the 2001 earthquake, Bhuj has rebuilt itself while retaining its heritage. It remains a vibrant hub for the Kutchi community's textile arts and crafts.
