Con Dao Islands

Vietnam, South East Asia

Con Dao is an archipelago of 16 islands, known for secluded beaches, coral reefs, and dense tropical forests. The main island, Con Son, offers hiking trails, quiet beaches, and historical sites like the Con Dao Prison, used during French colonial rule. The island is also a hotspot for sea turtle conservation, with visitors witnessing turtle hatchlings making their way to the ocean. Con Dao’s crystal-clear waters and diverse marine life make it a great destination for diving and snorkeling.

History

Con Dao has a dark past, as it was used as a prison island by the French and later during the Vietnam War. The infamous "Tiger Cages" were used to imprison political detainees. Despite its history, the island has transformed into a nature reserve and tourist attraction, with much of its land designated as Con Dao National Park.
