History

Dating back to the 11th century, Uluwatu Temple was built by Empu Kuturan, a revered Hindu sage. It was later expanded by Dang Hyang Nirartha, a spiritual figure who meditated at the site before achieving moksha (spiritual liberation). The temple is dedicated to the Hindu sea gods, symbolizing the balance of nature and spirituality.
