History

Mayon Volcano has erupted over 50 times since 1616, with the most destructive eruption occurring in 1814, which buried entire villages, including Cagsawa. The name "Mayon" is derived from the legend of Daragang Magayon (Beautiful Maiden), a tragic love story that adds to its mystique.
