History

Singapore's history dates back to the 14th century when it was a small fishing village known as Temasek. In 1819, Sir Stamford Raffles established it as a British trading post, which led to its rapid growth. The city played a strategic role in World War II but suffered Japanese occupation before regaining British rule. In 1965, Singapore became an independent nation and transformed itself into a global economic powerhouse. Today, it is one of the world's most advanced and prosperous countries.
